We are delighted to send you the first announcement of the 13th International Conference on In Vivo Methods: Monitoring Molecules in Neuroscience to be held at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Brussels, Belgium on September 12-16, 2010. This conference follows in the tradition of the "in vivo meeting" which was first established in Nottingham, UK in 1982. After the successful meeting in Vancouver in 2008, the conference returns to Europe, more specifically to the capital of Europe Brussels. The organization is supported by our colleagues from The Netherlands. This conference provides a platform to facilitate the development and refinement of methods for the detection of neurochemicals in the brain. Since the first conference in Nottingham, the meeting has changed from being initially a series of technique- and method-oriented seminars, to one with emphasis on state-of-the-art applications of neurochemical techniques ranging from studies conducted in single cells to those in humans. It may be considered as one of the most distinguished international meetings for both the academic and industrial researchers active in the field of experimental in vivo neuropharmacology and neurophysiopathology. Brussels as the capital of Europe hosts the head offices of the European Union and the NATO. It is a lively multicultural city with many historical buildings with splendid architecture, museums and is great for shopping. Belgium has a high standard culinary tradition and brews over 450 different varieties of beer. So besides the scientific value of the meeting, the participants will enjoy a number social events in the evenings, in the line of previous meetings, but with a Belgian touch. We are confident this will offer room for exchange of ideas, informal discussions and establishment of new contacts. For the 13th edition of this conference we aim to once more bring together researchers who are on the cutting edge of development of neurochemical tools with young scientists and Ph.D. students who are interested to direct their future careers towards in vivo monitoring of the brain. The scientific program, registration procedures and all information to organize your trip and stay will be made available on the new website of the "society on in vivo methods". The launch of this website will be announced in a future mailing. We hope to welcome you all to this unique meeting in the capital city of Europe!
